I am who I am

September 05, 2023

"I Am Who I Am"

In shadows cast by fading suns,
I stand as Ugyen Jigme Rangdrel, the one,
Known to some, a name in the wind,
To others, a tool, forgotten when thinned.

For parents, I'm a son, their pride and joy,
For siblings, a brother, their bonds I employ,
But to the world, I'm a voice, seeking truth,
In the democracy's embrace, I yearn for my youth.

Within me, memories silently stir,
Haunting lonely nights, in daylight they blur,
A powerly memory, a tormenting bane,
Driving me to madness, causing me pain.

In death, a question, "Who was this guy?"
I accept this fate, though I may not fly high,
Perhaps I couldn't change your life's view,
But know that I always thought well of you.

Though I yearn to depart from this realm so cold,
My parents' journey keeps me from growing old,
Their sacrifices, their love, a tether to this life,
Struggling through strife, to ease my own strife.

Once a boy with dreams as vast as the sky,
Now lost in the shadows, I wonder why,
Destiny seems to elude my grasp, slip away,
Life's harsh embrace, night turns to day.

If I were a dime, my words have no worth,
Disregarded speeches, unnoticed since birth,
The softer I am, the more cheerful I strive,
The more I try, the less I'm alive.

So now, to this war, I surrender in silence,
In solitude, I seek my own alliance,
I am who I am, in solitude, I thrive,
Alone, in the quiet, I am truly alive.
